Your appliances are some of the hardest-working things in your home. They keep your food cold, your clothes clean, and your house comfortable. But like anything else, they eventually wear out and need to be repaired or replaced. Here are some telltale signs that it might be time for a little TLC for your appliances.
One of the many staples of a home’s kitchen is the oven. If your oven is taking forever to preheat or not heating up at all, that's a sign that it might need to be repaired. You can tell if this is happening if your food is coming out raw. Another sign of a needed oven repair is if the pilot light won’t turn on your gas stovetop.
Another important fixture in your kitchen is your fridge. If you notice leaking, strange noises, or spoiled food it may be time to call someone in to fix your fridge. Waiting to repair your fridge can cost you lots of money in the long run: you’re more likely to ruin your food and need to get a whole new fridge.
If your washing machine is leaking, or if it's taking forever to wash your clothes, that's a sign that it might need to be replaced. A leaking washing machine can also damage your home’s flooring and walls and could even become a hot spot for mold growth. Similarly, if your dryer isn't drying your clothes the way it used to, that could be a sign that it needs to be replaced as well. You can also tell your dryer is in need of repair if you detect a burning smell when it’s running.
Behind the Walls
It’s important that you and your family feel comfortable in your home. It’s easy to notice something wrong when it’s right in front of you, but some of your home’s most important appliances and systems live behind your walls. If you notice uneven temperatures across the rooms of your home, hear your furnace hissing, or own an aging, struggling HVAC system, it may be time to have a professional lend a hand.
